The first day of Akilah classes began on February 2, 2010!

The American ambassador and Rwandan government officials from the District of Gasabo, the Rwanda Development Board, and the Workforce Development Authority attended the opening ceremony on February 6.

Timeline

Fall 2008

  • The idea for Akilah is first developed by Elizabeth Dearborn Davis and Dave Hughes in Kigali, Rwanda.

2009

  • Government agreements finalized, curriculum developmed, first class of students selected, Kigali classrooms constructed, start-up funding secured, and key staff and teachers hired.

February 2010

  • The Akilah Institute opened in Kigali in the neighborhood of Kibagabaga with our first class of 50 students.

Fall 2010

  • The first class of Diploma Students will be selected.

2011
