Progress

2009 has been an exciting year of fundraising, planning and development.

Our 2009 fundraising season kicked off with Razoo’s March Madness contest. Nearly 200 people helped us raise almost $6,000! Akilah friends and supporters sent emails around the U.S to encourage people to donate at least $10. We were so touched by the messages that donors posted on our Donor Wall.

In the early summer, we had three very successful events in the United States. On May 1, over 300 people attended the 2nd Annual Metropolitan Safari in New York City. Thank you to Co-Chairs Heather Summe, Meredith Wiedeman, W. Malcolm Dorson, and Louisa W. Ryan who made this event possible.

Executive Director Elizabeth D. Davis grew up in Tampa, Florida and so this is where Akilah’s strongest base of support is found. We were overwhelmed by the Tampa community who came out on a rainy night for the Akilah Benefit at the Lime. The event was promoted by Elizabeth’s interview on Studio 10 TV and covered by the St. Pete Times. Thank you to the Ciccio’s Restaurant Group for sponsoring the event.

The last summer fundraising event was hosted by Theresa Havell Carter, Jim Carter, and Prudence and Bruce Lev in New York City on June 10. Theresa and Jim graciously opened their home to over 6o people for a very special evening.
