Jonathan Kleiman – Health and Nutrition Teacher
Two weeks after it began, round 1 of the Razoo March Madness Tournament came to a close last night. It was a fierce two weeks of competition. Pitted against the 15 other NGOs in the South Region, we (with your help) fought tirelessly to collect as many donations as we could. But our competition was stiff. Every fast break we had (to extend the basketball metaphor), every spurt of donations we collected, our competitors replied with a vengeance. We sank a three-pointer, they sank a three-pointer and got fouled and made the free-throw. Two hours before the competition ended, our prospects looked grim. We were down by 8o donations and had only minutes left in the final quarter. We were going to need a spate of donations and heap of luck to pull ahead.
Magically, through your incredible support, with a come from behind effort unprecedented in Razoo competition, with seconds left on the clock, we pulled ahead. When the buzzer sounded last night at midnight, we had collected 466 donations – 28 donations ahead of the second place NGO – and had raised $11,300. We won we won! Fantastic.
So now we advance to the Final Four round. We will compete against the other three teams that won their brackets. Last round was about collecting the most number of donations. This round is about raising the most money. If we win, Razoo will give us another $10,000. So lets get back at it team. To win, we need to raise more money between now and Tuesday April 6th than the three other NGOs in the finals. You all did a fabulous job during round one, and we are extraordinarily appreciative. Lets keep at it.
