Summer of Visitors
One of the perks of my job is playing tour guide to Akilah friends and supporters when they come to Rwanda. I love to see the look on someone’s face when they see Kigali’s stunning scenery for the first time. Or to watch the awe and excitement upon entering the grounds of the Akilah campus. We had many visitors the last few months.
Carter Page, a new member of our Advisory Board, flew in from New York for five days to meet our local partners and supporters and to see the Akilah campus. We attended a cocktail party at the American Ambassador’s residence. Ambassador Stuart Symington was able to join us for a morning out in Bugesera.

Drayton Nabers is a family friend from Alabama. He has been coming to Rwanda for several years because of his friendship with Bishop John Rucyahana, the founder of Sonrise School. I spent two days in the north of the country with them and learned a great deal from their experience of opening and running schools in the area. Drayton also came out to visit the Akilah campus.

Luanne Ferguson is a dear friend and Akilah supporter from Tampa. She attended our Benefit at The Lime in May and has been planning a trip to Rwanda for a long time now.
